STBLE is a fashion brand with a focus on sustainable, gender neutral, high quality clothing.

For their photoshoot we wanted to capture a happy, sunny, summer vibe. Most people will associate bright sunlight with summer. However, bright sunlight can be quite a challenge since it creates harsh shadows and overexposed highlights. Even with a professional camera it’s difficult to get the sky ánd subject to be properly exposed.

We tackled this by using a reflector which enabled us to shoot directly into the sunlight, while reflecting the light onto the subjects face. By using this technique we got the sun to function as a rim light and the reflector to function as a key light. This results in a dreamy, vintage look with the subject properly exposed without losing too much of that nice blue sky.

Bright sunlight can be a challenge when shooting, but with the right gear and knowledge, you can use it to create effects that seemed impossible before.
